I could have been okay with Kevin’s death. I mean, it would have ripped my heart out no matter what, but I actually thought last night’s episode was really good overall, and it’s not the fact of his dying that makes me angry.
It’s the fact that so much time and energy has been wasted this season on episodes like “Dog Dean Afternoon” instead of on episodes that would move the plot and the characters forward.
It’s the fact that Kevin has been pushed out of frame all season, despite living in the bunker and supposedly being part of the family because, I don’t know, maybe the writers didn’t feel like dealing with him? Didn’t feel like doing the narrative work of integrating him into the action?
Basically, the show didn’t earn the heartbreaking emotional intensity of last night—Osric did. The show just used him to get our attention. I’m not angry at how Kevin died. I’m angry at how the last few months of his life were written.
